Singleton Village, Fylde, Lancashire

Singleton is termed ‘the Model Village of the Fylde’. Mentioned in the Domesday Book, the settlement was remodelled as an estate village in the late nineteenth century by Preston cotton magnate Thomas Miller, of Horrocks-Miller. Singleton Church, 1861 by E.G. Paley, is a Grade II listed building, as is the Fire Engine House with its pargeted plaster panels and louvered bellcote.

Singleton is said to have been the residence of one of the more famous Lancashire Witches Mag Shelton. Within easy reach of the Fylde coast resorts, Singleton surrounded by farmland, has maintained its village identity.

Singleton Parish Council

Singleton Parish Council was formed on 4th December 1894, with five councillors, when the population was 380. Now the population has grown to more than 900 people (in more than 400 households) we still have only five councillors – plus, of course, a clerk.

Singleton Trust

The Trust owns much of the heart of the village together with a large acreage of farmland and woods. The Trust has responsibility for the maintenance of this extensive estate which includes over 30 homes, a farm and 580 acres of land surrounding the village.

Singleton Village Hall

Since 1924 the hall has provided a welcoming and accessible venue that would allow entertainment as well as social and educational activities open to every resident of Singleton and the surrounding communities. These activities or events were and are often organised by the committee or, by other organisations that used the hall.

Miller Arms

The Miller Arms is Singleton's very own Gastro Pub. Run by a local family, it provides a whole range of drinks and offers both a pub food menu and a full restaurant menu. The recent refurbishments make this a place well worth a visit and the outdoor play area is sure to keep the young one entertained for many a long afternoon.
